Best dining experience I’ve had in Norway so far. We had the three course meal with drink pairing. Everything was exceptional!
We had 3 courses menu which is astonishingly tasty! The croquettes were hidden that confused us. The muscles are so fresh and taste almost like oyster! All sources have best combinations of multiple layer of flavor. Most surprise is the potato! The best I had in my life, really want to know the secrete 🤣
Far exceeded our expectations. We were eating well everywhere in Bergen, but for the last night, we decided to go easy and just visit a simple gastropub. It turned out to be probably the best dinner in Norway. At first, I was worried that maybe a 3-course menu would be too little food, and we needed to go for the 5-course one. We couldn't have been more wrong, as we couldn't finish everything. And the food was extremely good. Our hostess recommended a beer tasting, and it was a great accompaniment to the food. Highly recommended!
I don’t write reviews often and I’m far from the most experienced when it comes to dining at restaurants. But visiting Allmuen was such a wonderful experience that I must needs share it! We had reserved a table beforehand after inquiring about allergies via telephone, as the party consisted of one person, me, with gluten intolerance (celiac disease), one person with gluten and lactose intolerance, a friend, and one person, my better half, that somehow likes the taste of both coriander and goat cheese. We didn’t quite arrive at the agreed time due to nightmarish traffic conditions caused by cruise boat tourists, out-of-order traffic lights, and an abominable parking garage, but our vanguard secured the table for us, and you can call if you’re delayed and aren’t fortunate enough to have someone to spearhead the effort. We were met by a very knowledgeable waiter, who not only knew about allergens, but also knew when to ask the chefs for clarification. We were recommended to stick to the three course meal for the best experience considering the replacements necessary to account for our respective allergies, and I found this to be very assuring. So armed with knowledge, we ordered a three course meal for the nonallergic among us and the house specialty for the remainder of the party, which was made gluten free. (They even asked follow-up questions about the degree of lactose intolerance, which goes to show that they know what they’re doing.) Soon after, in relative terms at least, the starter from the three course meal arrived, was introduced, and subsequently consumed with much delight. Then, the main course and the house specialty was served. And this is where my limited experience kicks in, as I don’t have any fancy words with which to describe the meal, but for me, it was absolutely sublime. I have never had a better meal. I enjoyed it to such an extent that my wife couldn’t stop smiling at the happy faces I made as I chewed the food. I relished every bite, and when it was all gone (and it was), I felt a profound sense of contentment that I have seldom felt in relation to food. But this was not to be the end of our quest! Dessert was still to come, and we all enjoyed our respective plates with much delight, and coffee! Food this great doesn’t come cheap, of course, but I think the quality more than justifies the price that is asked. Were the establishment closer to my residence in Denmark, we would surely frequent this place with some regularity. All in all, dining at Allmuen was an incredible experience. We will definitely be back!
We got the 5 course tasting menu plus beer pairing and it was wonderful! Got some Norwegian beers and some world beers. The pairings were mostly fantastic (their pairing person was out the night we were in, and they had to sub in a menu item). Service could have been better, but overall good (as long as there are not too many ppl). Would 100% recommend.
Allmuen truly stands out highlighting locally sourced, fine ingredients. The menu changes often, we tried a tasty dry aged beef and fried fish of the day, both were delicious. The pairing with local ciders and beers enhances the overall dining experience.
Super nice evening on the 20 of November , we took the 3courses menu, one with the vegetarian option which was also very nice ! Plating is on point and dang ! Quantity was very honest too ! Super nice service as well, the waiter (sorry buddy I haven't asked your name) was alone that night and ran that service very well, took time for us and for all the guests. Nice wine pairing Highly recommend !
We booked here when on a road trip around Norway, was one of the few places with spaces available. We tried the 3 course Chef's tasting menu and were pleasantly surprised by the flavours, quality, quantity and presentation of the food. Starters were turnips, sharing plates were cod and dill fishcakes, grilled cod and cauliflower and dessert was raspberry sorbet. Service was great too. Nice ambience inside and not very busy. It was the perfect meal after a long day and drive. Would highly recommend.
