Iris Café
Mainly a Restaurant placeAbout Iris Café:
Local cafe serving simple American breakfast & sandwiches, plus a slightly more upscale dinner menu.
Wrong place to walk in for food, 2 service guys walking lost like puppies, after 30 min of waiting for food ( even simple tuna tartar) he left food on the table and left forgetting forks and any napkins. Outdoor umbrellas destroyed entire sun is in your eyes, manage sitting inside and can careless that his stuff cant serve 10 people, every one was unhappy. I have no idea how they survive there. I personally wont walk in there again.
Cozy cafe along the waterfront. Lovely ambiance with outdoor seating available. We stopped in for breakfast. The cafe was quite empty early in the day. They were out of scones and muffins. Our breakfast was quite good. The server was attentive. I had the pancake which was delicious. Note that there is a 20% service fee added to every bill.
Very cute cafe vibe. Clean and cozy but also bright (yet not so bright as to be antiseptic). Service was super friendly. My son had the “kids steak frites” and he and I both loved loved loved the fact that the kids menu is more than just chicken tenders and buttered pasta. I had the brick chicken with a side of mashed potatoes (which were really solid).
I have dined at this restaurant several times with my family and friends, but after how rudely the owner treated me and my dog for stepping in from the heat outside, I will never be returning to the restaurant or their adjacent market again. Not only was he rude to me, but berated me to his staff. Understandably, everyone has a bad day, but I have witnessed this before, and as an owner of an establishment, find the behavior completely unacceptable. If you are new to the area, or just visiting, Estuary on the opposite corner of the same block has great people, great service, and a more expansive menu. We are always greeted with a smile and friendly service there, and will solely be going there and recommending to friends from now on.
Overall, I had a great experience here. It's a cozy spot to come with family, a friend or three, or by yourself to read a book while enjoying some great food. I ordered the salmon, which came with bok choy; plus a side of broccolini. It was all cooked to perfection. The teriyaki flavor on the salmon could possibly be considered a bit too salty by some, but I thought it was perfect. I did not regret a single bite. If there was any suggestion I'd have, it would be to give the option for a little less teriyaki sauce. The server was kind and attentive. The only very slightly negative part of the experience was confusion as to whether I should wait to be seated or just sit down myself. I didn't see any signs, so I just picked a cozy spot to sit and it was fine. That minor confusion was well outweighed by the rest of the experience.
My experience was so mixed. My server was great. He was friendly and on top of everything. The place was cute and clean. When I walked in, I didn’t feel welcome. I felt like I was bothering them. The bartender complained to the staff the entire time I was there. Kind of ruined the ambiance of the place and experience. I tried the Chilaquiles and they were good. The best part was my server and I wish I would’ve asked his name.
Interesting that other people noted the poor service. I came well into dinner time and they still made me pancakes which were really good. They did totally forget my drink with my food but I didn't really care because the pancakes were so good. My friend came and we ordered a little more food and I reminded them about the drink. When the bill came they charged me for 2 drinks, I guess because I asked twice even though the drink only came once. I told them about it though and they even offered to take additional money off the bill. Anyway, it wasnt perfect but I'm giving 5 because they were nice to me. id love to come back on a warmer Sunday and eat a fat pancake with that great view. We sat inside this time because it was a little chilly but they have some great tables out front that look prime.
I came here for their pancake, and it turned out fabulous!✨🥞 I was able to talk to the owner and she told me this is a Japanese style. Texture was the big point. It smelled really good, and it was crispy at the edge, soft and chewy inside. It came with syrup, fruits, and butter. Simple but tasty. Compared, chocolate lava cake was not that special. But still, if that’s what u like, nothing wrong to get it. I did see some reviews talking about bad services, and I hope those staff could be trained more. I’m lucky cause people treated me well that night.
