Café Sara
Mainly a Cafe placeAbout Café Sara:
Late-opening, cozy, dark wood bar/restaurant with outdoor area, for burgers, burritos & BBQ dishes.
Had the chicken fajitas last night. Perhaps the best fajitas I had. Norwegian food has been a bit bland and if anything oversalted for me, but this was genuinely good. Ask for hot sauce if you need it!
Have been here a few times before and was super happy with the food and service, but this time has been a HUGE disappointment. Everyone in staff had long unpleasant faces, lied about serving cocktails, after ordering I got myself a mojito made with tequila 🤮 came here to eat but couldn’t order any food, all the drinks were served in warm glasses by very unpleasant staff. Not coming back.
Sad update. What used to be a great place is now run by a crowd that really don’t deserve your money. Extremely sad to see a place I once almost worshipped go down the toilet. Look around. There are way better ways to spend your time close by. For those interested in what it used to be I have saved my initial 5-star review(s) below. Ever since I first discovered Café Sara some five years ago it has a special place in my beer marinated Oslo heart. It was here I stayed way too long discussing the bustling Norwegian beer scene with fellow beer knurds. I was drawn to the eclectic approach to food and beer. Glad to see they haven’t changed.
I guess this is a typical Norwegian pub? My first visit here and to Norway. Outstanding beer selection and the food looked pretty decent. We had a lovely Danish waitress who went out of her way to help and have a nice chat with us about our travels. When she finished her shift the service went a bit downhill. There is table service but once the helpful waitress left we never really even got asked if we needed anything. I would go back and give it another try
I have been here several times. Great food, good service. In fact my favorite place in Oslo. What amaze me is the beer seleton, change often and top of the range. Has rated close to 3000 beers now, found two of my tops here.
I've tried the Adana (i think) kebab and the steak.. it was just perfect! the kitchen is open until 2am and i believe it's rare to find a place with such quality at such time in Oslo.. otherwise you will have to have some poor quality donners and so..
The food was okay. We had fish and chips. The fish was a very greasy. The dip that came with the fries was very tasty. After we were done eating we went to the toilets. The toilets were very smelly and there were blood drips on the floor and wall. Not very hygienic. We wanted to let anyone know about the blood, but we stood there at the bar for 5 minutes and nobody looked up at us, they were ignoring us. So we decided to leave. I don't think we will ever comming back again and I won't recommend this place to friends and family.
Food is good and the portions are large. We did have to wait a bit for our waitress, but once we got to order, the food arrived pretty quickly. The atmosphere is pretty dark and gives you more of a pub feel than a café. This explains why most people are seen drinking beer with the pub-grub-esque food on the side. For a pub round with food this place is great, but if you're primarily looking for a decent place to eat, there are tons of better options in Oslo.
