Really nice hotel located in a former bank building. Very friendly front desk and server staff. Comfy, clean and quiet room. Understated luxury. Nice breakfast buffet. Terrific location just a few minutes walk to Bryggen, the great fish market, shopping, etc.
Wonderful old school hotel on service and manners but very modern. Bed was very comfortable and room was great. Dinner was great and breakfast was wonderful too. Location for tourist Bergen was perfect. Could to anywhere we wanted to go. Cannot recommend this hotel high enough.
The restaurant section is the best restaurant in Bergen. You can eat high quality level dinner or lunch, cheaper than fish market. It is the best one in city center. Good service with delicious food.
The hotel is in a renovated bank close to the fish market and harbor and walking distance to most things. Public transport is just a short distance away. The rooms were spacious for Norwegian standards and well decorated. The beds and pillows were very comfortable. The weather was perfect which allowed us to keep the windows open. Unfortunately it allowed the street noise, but we did not care. But with the windows closed, the room was completely silent. Breakfast came with the room and while I have seen reviews about not enough variety; there was an ample amount of food in the buffet and there was a menu for a select a la cart items. I unfortunately did not get the hostess name, she was very friendly and made sure we were taken care of. There was also a violinist playing at breakfast (nice touch) . Will stay again the next time we are in Bergen. .
Opus XVI exceeded my expectations by a lot! First off, live piano music during check-in and breakfast was such a lovely touch. From the moment we stepped into the lobby we had the most relaxing experience staying here. Our room (Elizabeth mini suite) was perfect for a couple who enjoys a little extra space. Laundry, daily turn down service, and delicious breakfast buffet were the features we appreciated most about our stay. Every detail was elegant and well thought out. Thank you so so much! We hope to return again sometime. The only thing to note is that it can be quite loud, especially on Saturday nights. The front desk was able to provide earplugs and that helped us sleep better! The bed and linens are incredibly comfortable and luxurious.
This is a beautiful hotel with a great breakfast, great service, and comfortable beds. Unfortunately, we didn’t get a wink of sleep for 2 nights because the noise from the drunks walking by laughing and screaming until 3:30am kept us up. The room was very warm and since nobody in Norway has AC we had to keep the windows open to keep it bearable, but that meant listening to every group of drunkards that walked by the echoing street ally.
The hotel has a prime location just off the harbor front. The lobby area is impressive with high ceilings, and artifacts from composer Edvard Grieg, with a live violinist playing during the included breakfast. The hotel was sold out due to peak tourist season and Bruce Springsteen concert taking place while we were there. We had booked a deluxe room. Unfortunately the door lock to our assigned room was damaged and not working properly. We brought this to management’s attention, however due to the sold out situation they did not have another room of the same class available for both nights of our stay, and they did not have someone on staff to repair the damaged door. Since we did not want to have to change rooms during our 2 night stay, we opted for a very small standard room. The room had a king sized bed, but there was nowhere to place luggage, such as a desk or a chair. The bathroom was also very small, with a 30x30 inch shower. The weather was unseasonably warm during our stay, but the room did not cool off adequately, and the hotel did not have enough fans for guests requesting them. Our room faced a well traveled street, so we could not leave our window open overnight due to street noise. Management made sure to adjust our room rate, and comped one night. Breakfast was included, however selections were limited and the staff was overwhelmed by the numbers of guests at the hotel so service was quite slow.
Superior hotel with the most comfortable and cozy beds and bedding I can recall. Updated beautiful decor that reflects history, elegance and charm. The lobby has comfortable and elegant seating. Check-in was quick and friendly. We were offered a beverage which was a nice touch. Breakfast was included in our stay. Choose from the menu or serve yourself at the buffet. Service was slow as we waited for coffee and steamed milk on two separate occasions. There were several servers so this was surprising and unfortunate as we had to leave early for a boat tour. In the evening we came late for a cocktail but the kind and friendly bartender served us anyway. Thank you. Highly recommend this elegant hotel.
